Edison manufacturing company would go on to release Lighthouse by the sea in 1911. The execution of Mary Stuart was the first film to use special effects. It was 18 seconds long & the first film to use trained actors. The film shows Mary being brought out to be executed. the executioner raises his axe & chops off her head. The executioner raises up her head & the film ends.
